Introduction and History
Star Plus is an Indian broadcasting channel. It is owned by Disney Star , The Walt Disney Company India. The content of Star Plus include family drama, comedy shows, youth oriented shows, reality shows, crime shows and movies. It was launched in 21 February 1992. Star Plus was an English language broadcasting channel internationally presenting its services in United States, United kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. While Zee TV work as a Hindi language channel which was a counterpart of Star Plus. On 31 March 1996, Star Plus ended its relationship with Zee TV and completely transfer its shows to Hindi language. It adds new shows to the channel which help in building high standard and position as a Hindi language channel. While Star World work as an English language of channel. It was launched in United States in November 2004. Star Plus decided to launch its channel in Ireland and United kingdom in 2011 but it was delayed until 5 July 2012. In 2017 , Canada lost service for programming of Star Plus shows due to this reason a new platform, Hotstar was introduced in Canadian market. Star Plus services also shut down in United kingdom for the promotion of Hotstar. On 1st April 2001, Star Plus changed its logo from blue and white to yellow with cutting star. On 14 June 2010 it add a tagline to the star “ Rishta Wahi , Soch Nayi ! “. On 2016 it renew its tagline into “ Nayi Soch “ . In 2018 it launched its official song composed by AR Rahman. While it went renewal of logo into red crystal star with golden whoosh with tagline “ Rishta Wahi, Baat Nayi “ . On 30 December 2020 , Start Plus announce to be launch in Netherland. While in 2021, it changed Star Plus into Utsav Star in United kingdom and Europe.
Reception and Success
In early 2000 after its launch it was on third position in terms of viewership while Zee TV and Sony TV entertainment was on top. None of its show was included in top 10. It launched Hindi version of “ Kon Bnega Crore Pati “ which was hosted by Amitabh Bachan , it became number one show to be watched on television . While it launched “ Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi “ at the same day when “ Kon Bnega Crore Pati “ was launched , it became the second top show to be watched while making Star Plus the most watched television channel. It then stared “ Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki “ and “ Kasuti Zindagi Ki “ and many more hot shows under the production of Balaji Telefilms. These shows make it to achieve highest viewership and number one position . Most of the serials and shows produced in this period are the production of Balaji Telefilms. After 2010 its shows declined viewership and it was hard for the channel to maintain position. Balaji Telefilms ended relationship with Star Plus due to this reason while after two years they unite and produce a serial “ Tery Liye “ . However it lost its number one position by the rival channel Colors TV pushing it to the second position after nine years. While at its utmost worst time it was pushed to third position by Zee TV. Only its show “ Yeh Rishta Kia Kehlata hy “ was included in top 10 shows. In 2020 it was declared aa fifth position in India Hindi language broadcasting channels.
